We are in the final stage of switching from Trash bags to Garbage cans. Cost per month is Small Can (35 Gallons) $7.50
and Large Can 64 Gallons $12.50 Cost will be added to your Water & Sewer Bill.
Last day to utilize city trash bags individually will be Thursday Oct. 26th 2023
All Residents will be required to utilize Garbage Cans effective November 1, 2023

Tri-R Recycling services are available to all City of Independence residents free of charge.
All washed, broken down, and sorted recycling should be placed curb side on the first Tuesday of every month.

Our City Street Department picks up small amounts of brush/twigs/branches every Wednesday morning.
For larger amount pickup, please call City Hall to schedule appointment. This service is billed out on a job by job basis at $20/hour.
NO bagged grass clippings or leaves will be picked up. These can be taken to the City compost site located on Cleveland Street near the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Independence Food Pantry is open to any person in need.
The food Pantry is open Monday - Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to (Noon) and 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Friday 8:30 -12:30 and 1:30 to 3:00
Have a document that you need notarized? Bring it into City Hall to be notarized by the City Clerk free of charge.
Copies can be made at City Hall for $.50 a sheet.
Faxes can be made from City Hall for $1.50 per call.
The Water & Sewer Department now has gallon size Cooking Grease Containers available for free!!
They can be picked up at the (Grease Drop off Station) located at 23510 Cleveland Street.
Fill with Cooking Grease and return to (Empty) or if gate is closed leave by gate and take another container. PLEASE NOTE: Residents must (COOL) Cooking Oil and Grease in a pan and then transfer to plastic gallon container. (NEVER) pour hot oil or grease into a plastic container!
